Today there are 6 bells. The present fifth is the oldest, dating from c1400 and made by the Salisbury Foundry. There were reported to be 3 bells in the tower in 1553, of which the 5 is the only remainder. A bell from 1623 was recast in 1863, and the treble bell (no. 1 and the lightest) was given by Miss Hanham, Headmistress of the Village School in 1980 in memory of her father. At this time the bells were overhauled, tuned and hung in a new metal frame. Prior to this there would have been a wooden frame.

Drum of the Fovant Silver Band found in 2023

Cribbage Hut
The old photo of the licensed premises on this site is where the track from the corner of Lagpond Lane and Sutton Row crosses the current A30. A copy of this photo was hanging in the hallway of The Lancers which is the building which replaced The Cribbage Hut in this photo. All that remains on the site now are the sunken bits of a wooden building which was the pump house for the well.

Fovant Silver Band Bass Drum found in Tisbury Arts Group store

An educated guess is that this photo was taken outside The Old Rectory on Church Lane on the occasion of the Fovant Club’s annual walk to the church after their celebratory breakfast at the Cross Keys. The bandsmen can be distinguished not only by their instruments but also by the fact that they are all wearing a ‘uniform’ cap, the first recorded example of their uniform.
