For Children

It had never occurred to us when we set up our website in 2002 that children might find it useful when researching subjects for their schoolwork, so you may well ask why, ten years later, we have added this section for children.

At the beginning of this year, the Fovant Badges Society, with the looming centenary of the outbreak of World War I in mind, conceived the bright idea of drawing school children’s attention to the Fovant Badges, and all they stand for, via a Teacher’s Pack on the subject. Knowing that we of the Fovant History Interest Group had a wealth of background knowledge on the subject, the representative of the Badges Society requested our help in devising this Pack. We were only too glad to do so.

The centenary of World War I is still two years away, and there is still work to be done on various aspects of the prospective Teacher’s Pack, so it won’t be in schools for some while yet, but you can access here a preview of the ‘worksheets’ and teachers’ briefing notes section, as a ‘taster’.

On a more general note let me add that our new ‘for Children’ section can include any aspect of local history which is likely to be of interest to children.
