While this stage is still to some extent skills-based, attention is drawn to the requirement of the National Curriculum history syllabus to study ‘the impact of two world wars’ … on ‘past European and world societies’. With this in mind the worksheets for this stage, though following a similar chronological question sequence to Key Stage 2, tend to concentrate on the actual, rather than the unintended, consequences of waging total war.
The content of the last section ‘Lest we forget’ is consciously aimed at the changing attitudes to war once the realities of the aftermath set in.
